Lately, I haven't been feeling myself. I'm not sure if it's my hormones or because I'm stressed about my AS exams which are just around the corner. Who knows what's causing it but I'm determined to keep going, hold my head up and smile. To try and cheer myself up a bit, I've been trying little tips and changing up my routine. If you're feeling the same way, here are a few of my favourite things to do to cheer myself up...
1. Turn on loud music and have a dance - pretty self explanatory but there's something amazing about getting lost in the music and clearing your mind of all of your stress. It's what I am currently doing whilst typing up this post and trust me, it helps.
2. Go for a walk - another way to clear your mind is to get some air into your lungs. Take some deep breaths and appreciate your surroundings. Whether you're walking through the streets or getting muddy in the forest, walking and changing up your scenery will get your blood pumping through your veins and inspire you to carry on.
3. Watch your favourite TV programme or YouTuber - sometimes when you're feeling low, the only cure is a tub of your favourite ice cream and a binge of your favourite show on Netflix. This definitely cheers me up, but I wouldn't recommend doing it every single time you feel this way, just once or twice.
4. Have a chat - pick up the phone or meet up with your friends. You can discuss why you're feeling this way or they can tell you about their week and allow yourself to get lost in the conversation. This can really pick up your mood.
5. Spritz your favourite perfume - this is another good one. Although it doesn't require much, breathing in your favourite scent I'm sure will trigger happy memories and lift your mood. For me, this is Prada Candy Eau De Toilette, this brings back so many memories of Prom and last summer.
6. Apply some makeup - sometimes all us girls need is to apply our favourite lipstick and smile. Put on a bit more blusher, you know you want to! This can generally just lift you up and make you feel a lot better about yourself.
7. Treat yourself - again, I wouldn't recommend doing this every time you're feeling a little bit down in the dumps, but purchasing a new top or makeup product to try is exciting and can completely change your look.
8. Bake - I love baking, I haven't in ages but it's so therapeutic. This weekend I am hoping to make a batch of my favourite cookies. You can do so whilst having a dance to your favourite music and then invite your friends round for Afternoon Tea.
9. Colouring - a couple of months ago I bought myself an adult colouring book. Another way to let off steam is to colour in the delicate and intricate patterns. I have currently finished the first page which is an octopus. I absolutely love art and being creative, although I'm not the best at drawing! But colouring allows my creative juices to flow and you can escape your thoughts.
10. Have a little tidy up - de-clutter your surroundings, change the way you store something and get rid of the pile of clothes from your floor.
11. Read - allow yourself to get lost in the pages of a good book. You could do this sitting in the sun or under your covers. I know myself that I don't read as often as I would like. It's easy to get caught up and think you should just go on your phone instead, but switch your phone off, lock it in a drawer if you have to and let yourself unwind.
12. Inspire yourself - do something you love, for example play a musical instrument, go on a bike ride, type up a blogpost, whatever you enjoy doing, treat yourself to a little me time. If all else fails, run yourself a bath and give yourself a pamper.
How do you pick yourself on a bad day?

DeleteI'm pretty sure playing my music loud and having a dance party with myself is the only thing that keeps me sane these days! Loved this post! x

DeleteHaving a chat is the best thing, just being able to clear the air or voice your feelings can make things automatically better!
